Course Description
The terrain covered by this race includes smooth road, rough track, grassy margins, mud, rock, shingle, steps and mountain pathways. Usually you are either going uphill or downhill with very few flat stretches (even these tend to undulate) For anyone familiar with the South Downs of England can I just quote the Nepali runner we brought to do the South Downs Way run..... "Oh good! it is flat!"
This race has been designed to be challenging in a physical way not in terms of being dangerous. The steps at Ulleri are deceptively steep especially on the way down and ski poles and sticks are an advised option. We expect runners to carry some emergency items such as a space blanket and whistle but the beauty of this course is that it is on a trekking path that is inhabited and the aid stations are frequent with help at hand. We have gone to every effort to minimise casualties and the drop out rate is more due to attrition rather than injury. We would like everyone to finish and advise people to consider whether to attempt the one day, two day or three day option.
